Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Right wing Barry Tallackson scores two goals in the Lowell Devil's 5-3 victory over the Manchester Monarchs in front of 6,435 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night.
Manchester (5-6-1-1) is seventh in the Atlantic Division with 12 points. Lowell (6-6-0-1) is tied for fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 13 points.
Tallackson's second goal of the night deemed to be the game winner at 17:39 in the second period. The deciding mark was scored when Tallackson came down the right side on a breakaway, deked to his left and shot the puck into goaltender Erik Ersberg's chest. As Tallackson's shot rebounded off of Ersberg, it traveled right back to him for the easy backhander and his third goal of the season. Center Ivan Khomutov and right wing Benoit Mondou assisted on the game-winning tally.
At 13:08 of the first stanza, right wing Teddy Purcell gave the Monarchs the early edge when he scored his seventh goal of the season. Right wing Lauri Tukonen received the puck on the left side of the net and was able to lure the Devils' netminder Jordan Parise out of position. Tukonen slid the puck across the crease to Purcell who got the disc on the opposite side and hammered it home to give Manchester the 1-0 lead. Center Gabe Gauthier earned his team leading 15th assist on the first tally of the game.
Devil's left wing Mark Pandolfo tied the game at 2:02 of the second period with his second goal of the season. He took a pass from left wing Patrick Davis who was skating down the middle of the Monarchs zone with Pandolfo on his left. The left wing beat Monarchs goaltender Dan Cloutier stick side to even the game at 1-1.
Ersberg replaced Cloutier at 5:02 of the second period. Cloutier let in one goal on 20 shots.
The Devils scored the next three goals of the game in a span of five minutes and 21 seconds with two coming off the stick of Tallackson and the third coming from former Monarchs left wing Noah Clarke. Left wing Jason Ryzner passed the disc to Tallackson in front of the net for the right wing's first of two goals on the night. Tallackson fought off a couple of Monarchs defensemen in front of Ersberg. As he was falling to the ice, Tallackson knocked in the go-ahead goal at 12:18 of the second period. Mondou registered his fifth assist of the year on the play.
Just over a minute after Tallackson's goal, Clarke added to the lead with his seventh goal of the season. Right wing Nicklas Bergfors ripped a shot from the center of the zone. The rebound ricocheted out to Clarke who was stationed at the left face-off circle. A sharp wrister beat Ersberg to his right at 13:35 in the second frame.
The Monarchs staged a comeback at the beginning of the third period when center Marc-Andre Cliche recorded his first goal of the season. Right wing Vladimir Dravecky ripped a shot on net which deflected off the boards behind the net. The puck became loose next to Parise's right skate and Cliche was on the spot to slam home the second goal of the night for the home team. Defenseman Brian Boyle kept his point streak alive at three games with the second assist on the play.
Gauthier kept the rally alive with his fifth goal of the season to bring the score to 4-3. Defenseman Peter Harrold sent the puck to Gauthier in the right face-off circle. Gauthier was wide open and tagged a wrister five-hole on Parise. The power play goal put the Monarchs within one of the Devils. Purcell received an assist on the play for his second point of the night.
Lowell devastated the Monarchs at 19:56 of the final frame. Center Ivan Khomutov found himself in a 2-on-1 with an empty net in front of him. Khomutov was just inside the blueline of the Monarchs zone when he sent the puck flying through the air and into the net. Mondou was credited with his third assist of the night.
Cloutier stopped 19-of-20 shots he faced while Esrberg took the loss stopping 12-of-15 shots. Parise earned the win stopping 36 shots.
Manchester went 1-for-2 on the power play. Lowell was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
