
P-Bruins Defeat Wolf Pack 4-2

Hartford, CT - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 4-2 Wednesday evening at the XL Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Levi Nelson, Trent Whitfield and two goals from Kirk MacDonald. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, March 26 at 7:05 p.m. for Visor Night against the Portland Pirates.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 2:23 mark of the opening period. Jeff LoVecchio had the puck along the boards and passed it to Nelson in the slot. Nelson shot the puck into the net from the low slot for his sixth goal of the season. Providence made it 2-0 at the 9:58 mark. Ned Lukacevic held the puck in the corner and sent it to the left point to Andy Wozniewski. He put a shot towards the net and MacDonald was there to pick up the loose puck and score his 11th goal of the season. The P-Bruins led 2-0 going into the first intermission.
The Wolf Pack cut the P-Bruins lead in half at the 10:37 mark of the second period, while on the power play. Corey Locke netted his 28th goal of the season with Bobby Sanguinetti and P.A. Parenteau, picking up the assists. Providence led 2-1 going into the second intermission.
Hartford tied the game at two at the 3:09 mark of the third period. Parenteau tallied his 18th goal of the season, while Ilkka Heikkinen and Bobby Sanguinetti recorded the assists. The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 10:43 mark. Whitfield stole the puck from behind the Wolf Pack net and scored through the five hole of Wolf Pack net minder Chad Johnson for his 17th goal of the season. Providence finished off the scoring with an empty net goal at the 18:28 mark. MacDonald tallied his 12th goal of the season, while Kenny Roche and Jeff Penner grabbed the assists. The P-Bruins went onto the 4-2 victory.
Dany Sabourin stopped 23 of 25 shots for the P-Bruins, while Johnson made 25 saves for the Wolf Pack. The P-Bruins were 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The road trip continues Friday against the Lowell Devils at the Tsongas Arena at 7:00 p.m. Saturday Providence faces the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. at the DCU Center, before wrapping up the week Sunday back at the XL Center at 3:00 p.m. against the Wolf Pack.
