Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates in their final game of a three game stretch at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence this afternoon.

At 4:06 into the first period, Portland's Justin Hache was called for a tripping penalty, forcing a Providence power play. However, the power play did not work out in Providence's favor and Portland's Jordan Martinook scored a short-handed unassisted goal at 4:43. This was the second goal of the season for Martinook. But the Pirates lead did not last long. First, Providence's Tyler Randell notched a short-handed goal at 8:59 to tie up the game. Randell was assisted by Craig Cunningham. Providence continued to play hard and took the lead when Jordan Caron placed the puck into the back of the net at 14:09. Caron was assisted with his fourth goal of the season by David Pastrnak and Steve Eminger. The P-Bruins ended the period leading the game 2-1.

Providence kept the momentum going into the second period. Just 7 minutes in, Bruins' Tyler Randell scored his second goal of the game. Matt Lindblad and Drew Mackenzie were credited with the assists. Tensions were high between the teams resulting in a scuffle with 9:39 left in period. The scuffle led to a penalty for both teams, boarding for Pirates' Darian Dziurzynski and roughing for Providence's Anthony Camara. The second period ended with Providence still in the lead with the score 3-1.

The P-Bruins were holding on to the 2 goal lead at the beginning of the third until 8:25 when Portland's Brendan Shinnimin scored with assists from Tyler Gaudet and Justin Hodgman. Gloves came off and punches were thrown between the Pirates and the P-Bruins at the end of the game, but it was too late to make a difference. Malcolm Subban had an impressive game in net saving 38 of the 40 shots on goal by the Pirates. Providence earned the win with a final score of 3-2.
