Portland Pirates News Release
Providence, R.I.- Portland Pirates (8-8-0-0) fell to the Providence Bruins (8-6-1-0) 3-2 in the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. The Bruins tied the series, with both teams now holding two wins apiece, this afternoon in Providence.
Both teams had good fortune in their first penalty kills of the game. A tripping minor sent the Pirate' Justin Hache to the box at 4:06 in the first. Seconds later at 4:43, Jordan Martinook lit the lamp unassisted, giving Portland the first lead of the match.
Soon after, the Bruin's Jordan Caron was sent to the box at 8:21 in the first for a high-sticking minor. Providence's Tyler Randell evened the score at 8:59 with an assist from Craig Cunningham. Caron helped the Bruins gain the lead at 14:09 with assists from David Pastrnak and Steve Eminger.
The second frame of the game was scoreless for the first seven minutes when Providence's Tyler Randell found the back of the net for the second time, making the score 3-1. Though they went scoreless in the second, the Pirates fired twenty shots in the period.
The Pirates looked for redemption in the third, after going nearly forty-four minutes without a goal. Brendan Shinnimin made it a one-goal game, scoring at 8:25 in the period with assists from Tyler Gaudet and Justin Hodgman. Playing 6-on-5 for the last seventy-six seconds of regulation, Portland hoped to tie the game.
Mike Mckenna (3-6-0) and Malcom Subban (4-3-1) had good afternoons between the pipes, both facing over thirty shots. Mckenna saved 29 out of the 32 shots fired at him, while Subban saved 38 out of 40.
The Pirates and Bruins will meet eight more times over the course of the 2014-2015 season. The Pirates will continue on the road, facing the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Wednesday, November 19th at 7 p.m. They will then be in Virginia to take on the Norfolk Admirals on Friday and Saturday nights.
