
O'Neill's OT Goal Gives Monarchs 4-3 Win over Hartford

HARTFORD, CT - Brian O'Neill scored the deciding goal with just over a minute remaining in overtime to lift the Monarchs to a 4-3 win over Hartford on Sunday at the XL Center.
In Manchester's first OT game of the season, O'Neill and Nick Shore cycled the puck around the Wolf Pack net in three-on-three play before O'Neill buried the game-winner.
With the win, Manchester (10-4-0-0) swept all three of its games this weekend and extended its winning streak to five straight games overall. The Monarchs trailed by 1-0 and 3-2 scores in the game.
Chris Bourque gave the Wolf Pack a 1-0 lead at 6:35 in the opening period when he buried a one-timer while on a two-man advantage.
Michael Mersch knocked in a loose puck right in front of Hartford goalie Mackenzie Skapski to even the score at 16:07 in the first period. It was his second goal of the season.
Manchester took four penalties in the first period, with Hartford scoring once on the power play in the first.
Shore picked up his team-leading eighth goal of the season when he cleaned up a loose puck in front of Skapski at 2:29 in the second period.
Hartford tied the score at 2-2 4:55 into the second when Justin Vaive scored on the power play after Jordan Weal took a hooking penalty.
J.T. Miller made it 3-2 Wolf Pack when he tipped home a shot from the point at 10:28 in the second on the power play.
Weal scored the game-tying goal at 12:10 in the third period when he buried a one-time shot from the low slot on the power play. It was his sixth goal of the season and fourth goal in his last four games.
Bourque had a clean breakaway early in OT that was turned away by Bartosak. Minutes later, O'Neill struck with the game-winner at 5:57.
Manchester's next game will be on Wednesday when it hosts Worcester on Education Day at 10 a.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

* The five-game winning streak marks the Monarchs' longest winning streak this season. * Patrik Bartosak turned away 23 of 26 shots for his third win of the season (3-1). * Sean Backman earned an assist on Michael Mersch's goal in the first period. It was his 100th career point in the AHL. * Nic Dowd had two assists and now leads the team with 10 assists this season.
