Rockford Looking to Rebound against Texas

November 16, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill. - The American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs hope to salvage a win out of what has been a tough three-game weekend Sunday afternoon as they host the 2014 Calder Cup Champion Texas Stars at the BMO Harris Bank Center in a 4 p.m. matinee.

The contest is the seventh-annual WIFR Sell-Out Night, so no additional tickets are available. Those with tickets can stay after the game to take the ice with their favorite players in another "Skate With the Hogs"event.

Fans unable to attend this afternoon can stream the game live online through AHL Live or watch on 23.2 Antenna TV, beginning with IceHogs Warm Up airing at 3:30 p.m.

Week 6 did not start according to plan for Rockford, as their eight game winning streak was snapped with two-straight losses to the Milwaukee Admirals. The IceHogs fell 4-1 on Friday night in Rockford before coming up short in Milwaukee Saturday night 2-1.

The second leg of the home-and-home set with the Admirals was a particularly nasty affair, with both teams combining for 66 penalty minutes, a season-high 45 of which were assessed to the IceHogs. Tied 1-1 after the second period, the tight, physical game fell in favor of Milwaukee when Joe Piskula found the winner with 7:32 remaining in regulation.

Rockford is looking to avoid following up their winning streak with a three-game skid on Sunday as they take on Texas to round out their three-in-three set. It is the first of four meetings between the IceHogs and Stars this season, after Rockford took both games from the Dallas Stars' affiliate last season.

In order to get back in the win column the IceHogs will have to find a way to contain Stars forward Travis Morin, who is tied for tops in the AHL with 19 points (7g-12a) in 13 games. The core remains from their championship team last spring, as the Stars return 17 players from their 2014 playoff roster.

As for the IceHogs' roster, they will return to Rockford a different-looking group than when they left, thanks to a crazy Saturday that saw three different roster moves by the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks first reassigned forward Peter Regin to the IceHogs, before calling up team captain Joakim Nordstrom just prior to the game in Milwaukee. The day ended with a bang when Chicago announced a late goaltender swap, sending Antti Raanta to Rockford and recalling Scott Darling for the second time in less than a month.

Next Home Game: Friday, Nov. 21 vs. Iowa Wild. Game begins at 7 p.m. The IceHogs second meeting with the Wild kicks off with another Blues Flame Lounge Pre-Game Party at the BMO. All ticketed fans 21-and-up can arrive early to enjoy free appetizers, live music and drink specials before enjoying the game. Doors open at 5:15 p.m.
