Oklahoma City Barons News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - Brad Hunt scored the game-winning goal with 1:20 left in regulation and Anton Lander added two goals and an assist to give the Oklahoma City Barons a 5-4 win over the Iowa Wild Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
Shortly after a tripping penalty was assessed to Iowa's Danny Syvret at 18:38 of the third period, Hunt's goal came as he blasted a shot off the ensuing faceoff that sailed past Wild goalie Johan Gustafsson at the 18:40 mark. With two assists to go along with the goal, Hunt extended his current points streak to five games.
Lander's first goal of the game came on a 5-on-3 Barons power play at 11:34 of the first period to tie the score at one goal apiece when he took a pass in the Iowa slot from Hunt and flipped a shot over the glove of Gustafsson.
After tying the game once again at 9:12 of the second period by jamming a loose in the Wild crease under the pads of Gustafsson, Lander won the faceoff that led to Hunt's goal for an assist to add to his two-goal game.
Joel Rechlicz gave the Wild an early 1-0 lead when he took a pass from Curt Gogol and beat Oklahoma City goalie Laurent Brossoit at the 2:35 mark of the first period.
Following Lander's first game-tying goal, Travis Ewanyk gave the Barons a 2-1 lead at 14:58 of the first period when he tipped a shot by Jujhar Khaira in front of the Iowa net that evaded Gustafsson.
Iowa's Tyler Graovac knotted the game at two goals at 16:44 of the first when he rebounded a Michael Karanen shot from the right circle and slid a backhander past Brossoit. The goal came on the power play with Oklahoma City's David Musil serving 2:00 for interference at 16:06.
With 1:30 left in the first period, Brett Sutter tallied a third first period Wild goal for the second straight night by sending a backhand shot from just inside the right circle that got around a sliding Brossoit, making the score 3-2 in favor of Iowa.
After the Barons' Mitch Moroz tallied his first AHL point by assisting on Lander's second goal of the game that evened the score at three, Iowa's Brett Bulmer put the Wild up again when he received a pass from Syrvet that led to a breakaway attempt and deposited the puck into the Barons net past a sprawling Brossoit at 15:21 of the second period.
In the third period, Oklahoma City's Curtis Hamilton evened the score again, taking a pass from the corner by C.J. Ludwig and chipping a shot from the low slot past Gustafsson at the 10:03 mark of the frame.
Hunt's game winner gave the Barons a split in the two-game series in Des Moines and improved Oklahoma City's record to 6-4-2-1 on the season.
The Barons' next game is Tuesday, Nov. 18, when they travel to San Antonio to take on the Rampage in a 10:30 a.m. start at the AT&T Center.
