
P-Bruins Defeat Sound Tigers 4-2

Bridgeport, CT - The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-2 Saturday evening at the Webster Bank Arena. The P-Bruins got two goals from Trent Whitfield, while Josh Hennessy and Carter Camper each added a goal.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at 12:03 of the opening frame. Kevan Miller held the puck at the point and passed it to Andrew Bodnarchuk at the opposite side of the blue line. Bodnarchuk sent it down towards the goal for Hennessy. He put the puck in the back of the net for his 19th goal of the season. Only 30 seconds later Providence made it 2-0. Lane MacDermid carried the puck into the zone and passed it off to Bobby Robins. He put a shot on net and Whitfield was there to scoop up the rebound and score his eighth goal of the season. The P-Bruins led 2-0 going into the first intermission.
Bridgeport responded with a goal at 7:51 of the second period. Sean Backman tallied his seventh goal of the season, while Tomas Marcinko and Calvin de Haan recorded the assists. The P-Bruins retook a two goal lead at 8:36 of the frame. Maxime Sauve passed the puck to Camper in front of the goal. He shot the puck off the crossbar and into the net for his 18th goal of the season. Miller had the second assist on the goal. Providence led 3-1 going into the second intermission.
Providence added to its lead at 8:03 of the third frame. Whitfield put the puck over the right shoulder of Bridgeport net minder Kevin Poulin for his second goal of the game and ninth goal of the season. Robins assisted on the goal. The Sound Tigers pulled within two goals at 15:57 of the frame when John Persson scored his fourth goal of the season. Mark Katic assisted on the goal. Providence held on for the 4-2 victory.
Michael Hutchinson earned the win blocking 39 of 41 shots, while Poulin came up short with 28 saves. The P-Bruins were 0-for-2 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins return to The Dunk Friday to face off again with the Sound Tigers. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for New England Ambulance Keychain Night, which are free to the first 2,000 fans.
