Syracuse Crunch News Release

Hershey, PA - Peter Holland scored the game-winning goal in a shootout to hand the Crunch a 3-2 win over the Hershey Bears tonight at the Giant Center.

Patrick Maroon, Holland and J.F. Jacques scored in the shootout for the Crunch and goaltender Igor Bobkov turned aside three of four Hershey skaters in the tie-breaking drill.

With a 35-28-5-5 record on the season the Crunch continue to solidify their spot in the AHL playoff race. The Crunch remain in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, three points ahead of the eighth place Manchester Monarchs. The top eight teams in the conference will qualify for the post-season.

The Bears got on the board first by capitalizing on a double-minor high-sticking penalty to Riley Holzapfel. With 49 seconds remaining on the man-advantage Chris Bourque deflected a Tomas Kundratek pass past Crunch netminder Igor Bobkov to give the Bears a 1-0 lead at the 5:12 mark of the opening frame.

Crunch defenseman Kyle Cumiskey tied the game when his shot from the blue line made it through traffic and found the back of Daren Machesney's net with 13:03 to play in the first period. Cumiskey's goal was his sixth of the season and unassisted.

The tie held until halfway through the second period when Kyle Palmieri gave the Crunch a 2-1 lead. Palmieri's wrist shot went over Machesney's shoulder for the right wing's 33rd goal of the season at the 9:09 mark of the second.

The Bears evened the score with their second power-play tally of the night. With Palmieri serving a bench minor for too many men on the ice Patrick McNeil wristed the puck into an open net to make it 2-2 with 2:53 to play in the middle frame.

The Crunch were guaranteed at least one point after a scoreless third period led to overtime. Neither team could score in the extra session so the game went to a shootout.
