
P-Bruins Defeat Pirates 3-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 3-2 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from T.J. Trevelyan, Nate Thompson and Jeff Hoggan. The 13-2-1 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday at The DCU Center to take on the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m.
After a scoreless opening period, the P-Bruins scored first in the second period at the 2:39 mark, while on the power play. From right inside the blue line Matt Lashoff sent the puck to Trevelyan at the right face off circle. Trevelyan shot the puck through the five hole of Pirates goaltender Mike McKenna and into the net. David Krejci recorded the second assist. The P-Bruins went up 2-0 at the 11:45 mark. Brett Skinner banked the puck off the glass to Wacey Rabbit. He sent the puck cross the crease to Thompson, who kicked the puck onto his stick and then shot it into the net, once again between the legs of McKenna. Portland pulled within a goal with time running out in the period at the 19:31 mark. Bobby Ryan scored the goal with Brian Salcido and Geoff Platt grabbing the assists. The P-Bruins went into the second intermission leading 2-1.
In the third period, the P-Bruins took a two goal advantage at the 10:49 mark, while shorthanded. Hoggan stole the puck at his own blue line and raced down the ice, putting the puck into the net. The goal was unassisted. Portland pulled within a goal at the 17:48 mark. Geoff Platt tallied his eighth goal of the season with Ryan Carter picking up the assist. Providence held on for the 3-2 victory.
Mike Brown stopped 22 of 24 shots for the P-Bruins, while McKenna made 24 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 1-for-6 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Atlantic Division-leading Providence Bruins return to action at the DCU Center Saturday versus the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. Providence wraps up the weekend at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday versus the Manchester Monarchs at 4:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins season ticket packages and individual tickets for the 2007-08 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
