
Boston recalls Vladimir Sobotka

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that the Boston Bruins have recalled rookie center Vladimir Sobotka, who could make his National Hockey League debut Saturday evening on the road against the New York Islanders. With the move, the P-Bruins now have 21 players on their roster, including 12 forwards, six defensemen and three goaltenders.
Sobotka, 20, is in his first professional season after being drafted by Boston 106th overall in the fourth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Through 15 games in Providence to begin his rookie campaign, the center has 14 points, including a team-leading seven goals, seven assists and a plus-10 rating. At the time of his call-up, his plus-minus rating ranked third on the P-Bruins behind Martins Karsums, plus-15, and Pascal Pelletier, plus-11.Prior to going pro, the Trebic, Czech Republic, native spent the past four seasons playing for the Slavia and Slavia Jr. teams in the Czech Republic. Sobotka was also a member of the Czech Republic's team that competed in the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships. At the 2007 tournament, Sobotka was named the Czech Republic's Second Star by a panel of coaches.
The Atlantic Division-leading Providence Bruins, 12-2-1-0 for 25 points, tonight host the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins are 2-0-1-0 this season against the Pirates. Providence is again on the road Saturday night at 7:05 p.m., battling the Worcester Sharks at the DCU Center. The two teams have split a pair of decisions over the last three weeks. Providence wraps up its second-straight four-games-in-five-days week with a home contest versus the Manchester Monarchs on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for a Tuukka Rask Poster Night. The P-Bruins defeated the Monarchs 2-1 in the season opener on October 6.
