November 23, 2007 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Norfolk Admirals 4-2 on Friday night at the Scope Arena in Norfolk in game one of a two-game set this weekend in Virginia. Norfolk scored four goals in a span of 6:34 in the first period as Karl Stewart, Jeff Campbell, Rob Klinkhammer, and Chris Lawrence all converted for the Admirals in the opening frame. Norfolk protected their lead the remainder of the evening in earning their third consecutive win.

"Tonight pretty much came down to that six-minute stretch in the first period where it seemed like everything they through on net went in for them," said Falcons head coach Kelly Buchberger. "I thought we were ready to play, but we just didn't get the job done. You have to give Norfolk credit, the came out hard in the first period and they scored some quick goals."

Falcons goaltender Jeff Deslauriers was pulled after allowing three goals on nine shots, while counterpart Devan Dubnyk was scored upon the first shot he faced. Dubnyk finished the night stopping 15 of 16 shots on goal for the evening in keeping his team in the game.

After falling behind 4-0, the Falcons didn't quit and responded with a goal of their own as center Patrick Thoresen got his team on the board late in the first period when he scored his 12th marker of the season at 19:41. Thoresen now has goals in five straight games.

"I think that's a very positive sign that guys didn't put their heads down and quit, we battled right back," said Falcons captain Rick Berry. "We changed up some things positionally after falling behind and hung in the game."

Tim Sestito cut Springfield's deficit to 4-2 when he scored his second marker of the year at 7:43 of the middle period. Midway through the third period, it appeared Springfield had moved to within a goal when Jean-Francois Jacques redirected a shot past Norfolk goaltender Jonathan Boutin, but the puck hit the post and it was tough to see on replays if the entire puck crossed the goal line.

"Those things happen, it was tough to tell from the bench if the puck crossed the line, we are 80-feet away," said Buchberger. "Not much you can do about it, I haven't seen the replay, so I can't say either way."

The Falcons received their only two power plays of the night in the third period, but Boutin and the Admirals held down the fort and collected the win.w
