April 4, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins clinched a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs for the eighth time in the 10-year history of the franchise on Wednesday night in Connecticut, following their 3-0 shutout of the Eastern Conference-leading Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The contest wrapped up the clubs' four-game season-series, with Providence posting an unbeaten 3-0-1-0 mark. Head coach Bill Armstrong's club is now 35-30-8-4 (82 points) on the season, and currently ranks 10th in the conference, just three points behind the sixth-seeded Manitoba Moose.
Bruin goaltender Andrew Raycroft stopped all 27 shots he faced in setting a franchise record for most shutouts in a season, with four. He is now 25-22-6 on the year. The shutout was the Bruins' sixth of the season. Jeff Maund has been between the pipes for the other two.
Center John Emmons was credited with the game-winning goal, on his fourth goal of the season. Center/right wing Andy Hilbert, who was named last week to the AHL All-Rookie Team, tallied his 26th, while left wing Jamie Thompson added his fifth.
