Bala Returns to Griffins

Grand Rapids, MI - The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League announced on Thursday that the Ottawa Senators have reassigned left wing Chris Bala.

Bala, Ottawa's third choice, 58th overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, made his NHL debut on March 26 in the Senators' 4-1 win over the New York Islanders, taking 10 shifts and totaling 6:13 of ice time. The 23-year-old rookie appeared in a total of four games with Ottawa, earning his first NHL point, an assist, against the Carolina Hurricanes on April 2. In all, Bala registered 20:52 of ice time, with one assist and a plus-one rating.

The Harvard University graduate currently leads all active Griffins with 21 goals and places second with 36 points. He is expected to be in the Griffins' lineup on Friday when they visit the Utah Grizzlies at 9:00 p.m.
