Fort Wayne, IN - Catcher Adam Zornes will join the Fort Wayne Wizards today after being promoted from the Arizona League Padres, team officials announced today.

Zornes was selected by the Padres in the sixth round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft out of Rice University. He hit .301 in 62 games with the Owls, with a team-best 12 home runs. He also added 10 doubles, walked 29 times and drove in 55 runs. He threw out 18 of 43 would-be base runners.

Originally selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 24th round of the 2007 draft, Zornes appeared in 29 games during the 2007 season and 40 games during the 2006 season. In 2007, the Rice pitching staff was 10-3 with a 2.90 earned run average and opponents hit .226 with Zornes behind the plate.

Wayne Graham, head coach of the Owls, said of Zornes in the 2008 Rice Baseball Media Guide, "Adam is a good defensive catcher with all the tools to be one of the best in the country. Outstanding arm, outstanding power."
