Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Quad Cities River Bandits responded to a big game riddled with playoff implications by blowing out the Beloit Snappers on Friday night, as Domnit Bolivar went 4-for-6 with a homer and four RBI to lead the charge in an 11-4 win at Pohlman Field.

Quad Cities (29-25, 62-56) not only clinched a potential tiebreaker by winning the season series against the Snappers four games to three, but they also moved into a second-place tie with Cedar Rapids as the playoff picture in the Midwest League-West continues to heat up. Beloit (28-26, 64-58) was stifled by Bandits' starter Ryan Kulik throughout most of the night, while leadoff hitter D'Marcus Ingram notched three hits and became the first River Bandit to score four runs in a game this season.

The River Bandits got Friday's game started with a quick strike, taking a lead in the top of the first after just two batters. Ingram ripped the second pitch of the night through the left side of the infield for a single, and Bolivar followed with a base hit up the middle. Ingram aggressively rounded second and headed for third, inducing a throw from center fielder Mark Dolenc that skipped past the third baseman and into the dugout. Ingram was then granted home plate as Quad Cities took a 1-0 lead.

The River Bandits extended the lead in the third. Bolivar singled to open the frame while a hit batsman and a walk loaded the bases with nobody out. Tommy Pham made it count by driving a double that one-hopped the wall in center, plating two runs for a 3-0 advantage.

Quad Cities went back to work in the fourth, as singles by Oliver Marmol and Ingram put the first two men aboard for the fourth time in as many innings against Snappers' starter Henry Reyes. One out later Brett Wallace hit a bouncing ball towards first, but the throw to the plate hit him in the leg as Marmol raced home and everybody advanced safely. Jon Edwards followed with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Ingram for a 5-0 lead.

The score was 5-1 when the River Bandits blew the game open with a pair of longballs in the seventh. After Blake Murphy was hit by a pitch with one out, Carlos Pupo got a hold of a 3-1 offering and launched a towering home run that easily cleared the fence in left field. Later in the frame there were two away when Marmol drew a walk and Ingram was hit in the helmet by a pitch. But after he nonchalantly jogged down to first, Bolivar made the Snappers pay by clubbing a three-run bomb to left that stretched the lead to 10-1.

Meanwhile, Kulik (4-4) was spectacular in the win, repeatedly shaking off long stints on the bench while the River Bandits were batting and working quickly and efficiently during his stretches on the mound. The 22-year-old lefty established a 2008 team-high by lasting 7.2 innings, retiring 11 consecutive batters at one point and allowing just two earned runs. Kulik yielded three runs on seven hits in all, with three of the knocks helping to chase him from the game during Beloit's two-run eighth inning.

Quad Cities made it an 11-3 game in the ninth, as Bolivar followed a leadoff single by Ingram with a run-scoring double down the right field line. In the bottom half of the frame, Beloit's Greg Yersich registered his third hit of the night with an RBI-single to reach the 11-4 final.

Reyes (2-2) suffered the loss for the Snappers, as the River Bandits knocked him around for five runs - four earned - on eight hits over four innings of work.
