Peoria Chiefs News Release
PEORIA, IL - Dylan Johnston and Rebel Ridling each hit three-run homers for the Peoria Chiefs on Friday night. That was enough. The Chiefs topped the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-4 at O'Brien Field. Joe White and Alex Meneses both homered for the Rattlers, but Wisconsin could not dig out of a 6-1 hole.
Johnston put the Chiefs (26-28 overall, 56-66 overall) in front with a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.
Wisconsin (18-36, 49-71) got on the scoreboard with a home run of their own. White lined a homer to right with two outs in the fourth inning to make the score 3-1.
But, that was the only run the Rattlers would get off Peoria starting pitcher Robert Hernandez. He gave up four hits and struck out three over four innings. Chris Siegfried, the eventual winning pitcher, worked a perfect fifth and a perfect sixth.
Before Zach Ashwood replaced Siegfried for the top of the seventh, the Chief offense struck again in the bottom of the sixth. Brandon Guyer walked and Johnston singled to put runners on the corners and chase Rattler starter Keith Renaud. Rattler reliever Jose Escalona got the first out with a strikeout. However, he fell behind Ridling 3-1 in the count and Ridling hammered the next pitch out of the stadium for a three-run homer and a 6-1 lead.
Meneses hit his first professional home run to lead off the Rattler half of the eighth inning. Wisconsin quickly loaded the bases on a walk, a single, and a walk against Ashwood. Juan Diaz grounded into a force out at second to get a run home. White drove in the third run of the inning with a single to center. That hit knocked Ashwood from the game.
But, Craig Muschko retired the next two batters to get out of the inning with Peoria still in front 6-4. Then, Muschko pitched a perfect top of the ninth for his sixth save of the season
The Timber Rattlers continue their road trip with the first game of a four game series at Kane County on Saturday night. Michael Pineda (7-5, 2.17) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. The Cougars will counter with Carlos Hernandez (4-0, 2.96). Game time is 6:00pm.
