
Bees Win To Take Series from Clinton

Clinton, IA (Aug 15, 2008) - The Burlington Bees wrapped up their only series this season at Clinton by defeating the LumberKings 7-4 to take two of three games in the series. Alex Caldera pitched seven innings to pick up his tenth win of the year, making him the first Bee to record double-digit victories this season.
The Bees began the scoring in the top of the second inning. Clint Robinson led the inning off by hitting his 12th homerun of the season. Nick Francis then came to the plate and hit a triple. Walton then followed Francis with an infield single but it did not score Francis. Juan Rivera grounded into a double-play but it scored Francis and gave the Bees a 2-0 lead. Clinton did score one run in the bottom of the second to cut their deficit to one run.
The Bees scored another run in the top of the sixth inning. Johnny Giavotella led the inning off by hitting his fourth homerun of the season to give the Bees a 3-1 lead.
The Bees opened up their lead in the eighth inning by scoring 4 runs. Mike Moustakas led off with a single and then moved to second when Jason Taylor was walked. Clint Robinson then singled to score Moustakas and move Taylor to third. After Robsinon was caught stealing, Nick Francis reached on a fielder's choice, which scored Taylor. Francis ended up at second on an error and scored on a Jamar Walton double. After Walton moved to third, Juan Rivera hit a sacrifice fly to score Walton and give the Bees a 7-1 lead. Clinton did add three runs in the ninth and had the tying run at the plate but could not come up with more than that.
Alex Caldera got the start for the Bees and the win to move to 10-6 on the season. In seven innings, he allowed one run on four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Paul Raglione pitched 1.2 innings allowing three runs. Tony Braldey recorded the final out to pick up his fourth save of the season.
The Bees outhit Clinton 13-7. Both Moustakas and Robinson had three hits in the game. It was the second consecutive three-hit game for Robinson. Walton finished the day with two hits. Robinson was the only Bee with multiple RBI as he recorded two of them.
The Bees continue the seven-game road trip Saturday at Quad Cities. The Bees are scheduled to play four games at Quad Cities as they begin the final 16 games of the regular season. Matt Mitchell is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees will return home Thursday August 21 to begin their final eight-game home stand.
