Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - Anthony Capra notched a quality start, Todd Johnson homered and Adam Klein tripled in a run Friday night to lead the Kane County Cougars to a 4-1 victory and a three-game sweep of the Cedar Rapids Kernels in front of 9,021 fans at Elfstrom Stadium.

Capra (3-2) picked up his first home win and has delivered a quality three times in his last four tries. He gave up his only run in the fourth inning and ceded five hits, walked two and fanned five in the victory.

The Cougars tied the game in the fourth against Jose Perez (0-2) with Johnson's 12th homer of the season and took the lead in the fifth on Klein's triple. Then Michael Richard poked a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1, and the Cougars added an insurance run in the eighth on a Kernels error for a 4-1 score that became the final. Scott Deal struck out four in two scoreless relief innings in Capra's stead, and Leonardo Espinal pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his third save.

The Cougars (25-29) continue their seven-game home stand Saturday night at 6 CT when they open a four-game set against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Carlos Hernandez (4-0, 2.96) will face Michael Pineda (7-5, 2.17).
