August 13, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels fell to the Kane County Cougars, 5-1, in a game shortened to seven innings due to the completion of a suspended game from July 7. Greg Dowling and Todd Johnson each hit solo home runs and Scott Hodsdon and Lance Sewell combined to hold the Kernels to just three hits and struck out seven.
The Kernels scored their run on a solo home run by Carlos Colmenares in the sixth inning. Kernels starter Esmerlin Jimenez threw a complete game, but allowed five runs (four earned) on just three hits, walked two and struck out three in taking the loss.
