September 1, 2009 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Although Lynchburg is still in the midst of its 2009 season, Hillcats pitcher Rudy Owens has already garnered post-season honors. Owens, who began the 2009 campaign with the West Virginia Power, Pittsburgh's Low-A affiliate, has been named the South Atlantic League's Most Outstanding Pitcher. Additionally, Owens was also selected to the league's post-season All-Star team.

Owens posted a 10-1 record with a 1.70 ERA in 19 starts with West Virginia. The left-hander was named a mid-season All-Star in the South Atlantic League and earned the league's Pitcher-of-the-Week award twice prior to his promotion to Lynchburg on August 3. Since he joined the Hillcats, Owens has gone 1-1 with a 3.10 ERA in five starts. Owens was named Carolina League Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week of August 3 through 9 after recording a 1-0 mark in 9 1/3 scoreless innings in his first two starts with Lynchburg.

Owens' cumulative numbers with West Virginia and Lynchburg have eclipsed his previous career highs in several major categories, including wins (11), innings pitched (121.0), strikeouts (110), earned run average (1.93) and games started (24).
