Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Potomac took game one of the three-game series in Woodbridge with a 4-3 win in 11 innings. Lynchburg tries to even the set at a game a piece on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Pfitzner Stadium.
Lynchburg struck first with a run in the top of the first inning. Jamie Romak hit a ground ball that would drive home Chase d'Arnuad to make it a 1-0 game.
In the third inning the Hillcats would add a run to their lead without the benefit of a hit. Jose De Los Santos reached to start the inning on an error, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Josh Harrison and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jordy Mercer.
Potomac got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI single by Stephen King to cut the Hillcats lead in half at 2-1.
In the fifth inning Josh Harrison doubled in a run with two outs to push the Lynchburg advantage back to two at 3-1.
The Nationals would respond again though with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at six a piece. Devin Ivany brought in the first run with a sacrifice fly and Brian Peacock doubled in the tying run with two outs in the frame to knot the game at three a piece.
The score would stay tied at three into extra innings until the 11th inning when the Nationals would break the tie. Thanks to a pair of walks, a hit batter, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly, the P-Nats would plate a run in the frame to earn the walk-off win.
Chris Cullen (4-4) took the loss for Lynchburg (25-38, 70-63) and Hassan Pena (1-1) picked-up the win for Potomac (39-25, 76-55).
The middle-game of the series takes place on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Pfitzner Stadium. The Hillcats will send left-hander Justin Wilson (6-8, 4.50) to the mound opposite fellow lefty Will Atwood (8-7, 4.44) for the Nationals.
You can catch all the live action beginning at 6:40 p.m. on FM 105.5 KD Country, 96.9 FM in Roanoke and on the world wide web on kdcountry.com and lynchburg-hillcats.com.
