
Late Comeback Goes For Naught, Rocks Walk Off With 4-3 Win

WILMINGTON, DE - The Pelicans rallied late for two runs over the final two innings to tie the game, but the Blue Rocks prevailed by plating a run in the bottom of the ninth to claim a 4-3 walk-off win. With the loss, they have now lost a season-high eight straight.
The Blue Rocks struck first again with a run in the top of the second when Nick Van Stratten scored on an RBI single by Chase Fontaine to put the Rocks up 1-0. Wilmington struck for another run in the fourth again with Fontaine singling home Van Stratten.
The Pelicans pulled within one on a solo home run by Jesus Sucre in the top of the fifth. Wilmington countered in the bottom of the inning when Mike Moustakas singled home Derrick Robinson.
Myrtle Beach chipped away and tied the game over the final two innings. Chais Fuller scored on a base hit by Cole Miles in the eighth to pull the Pelicans within one. They tied the game in the ninth on an RBI double by Jesus Sucre which scored Jon Mark Owings who was running for Gerry Rodriguez.
Cory Gearrin struck out the side in the eighth, but allowed the winning run to score in the ninth on an infield single. With Ryan Eigsti at third and two men out, Johnny Giavotella hit slow chopper up the third base line which allowed Eigsti to score the winning run.
Louis Coleman (3-1) was credited with the win despite blowing the save in the ninth inning. Gearrin (0-2) was tagged with the loss allowing a run in an inning and two thirds.
The series concludes tomorrow night when the Pelicans send lefty Richard Sullivan to the mound against right-hander Danny Guiterrez. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at Frawley Stadium.
