Frederick Keys News Release
The Kinston Indians took advantage of the six free passes the Frederick Keys surrendered on Tuesday night, as they scored five runs on just three hits on the way to a 5-1 victory.
The K-Tribe got on the scoreboard in the top half of the first inning. With one man out, Frederick RHP Chorye Spoone surrendered back-to-back walks to CF Tim Fedroff and 2B Cord Phelps. DH Ole Sheldon then cracked a three-run homer to right, and just like that it was 3-0.
Frederick scored its lone run in the first. With one man down, SS Bobby Stevens blasted a solo homerun to left. Stevens' seventh long ball of the season made it 3-1.
Kinston extended their lead in the third. Spoone walked LF Lucas Montero and Fedroff to start off the inning. Sheldon knocked in Montero with a single, extending the Indians' lead to three.
Spoone exited after allowing four runs, all earned on three hits in four innings of work. He walked a season-high five batters and struck out two. Three of the five hitters Spoone walked came around to score.
The Indians scored one more time in the eighth. Frederick RHP Brettt Jacobson walked Fedroff. He stole second and moved up to third on a ground out to short. Sheldon, who knocked in all five runs for the Indians Tuesday night, lifted a sac fly to right field, making it 5-1.
Kinston RHP Paolo Espino (8-6) got the win after allowing just one run on two hits in five innings. Spoone (0-1) took the loss.
The Keys will try to even the series up at a game apiece Wednesday night at Harry Grove Stadium. It's Candidates Night at the ballpark. For ticket information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
