Kinston Survives the 2009 Season Without a Rainout

September 1, 2009 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Kinston Indians News Release

Kinston, NC - During one of the rainiest summers ever on the east coast, the K-Tribe dodged the drops and did not have a rainout at Historic Grainger Stadium this season. Kinston is the only team to stay dry in the Carolina League this year. This is the first time a Carolina League team has completed the season without a rainout since Wilmington did it in the 1999 season!

"A lot of credit goes to our grounds crew and Head Groundskeeper Stephen Watson," says Kinston Indians General Manager Shari Massengill. "There were a lot of game days when big storms rolled through late in the afternoon, but we were ready before and after to get the games going."

"We were definitely lucky," says Head Groundskeeper Stephen Watson. "It took a lot of luck, but it certainly is a tribute to everybody that helped out. From the City of Kinston fire department to parks and recreation, it is not just one person, it was everyone coming together and making it work."

The K-Tribe hopes to pull the tarp a couple more times as the Indians are in the hunt for the final playoff spot in the Carolina League Southern Division. With just seven more games to play in the regular season, Kinston is just ½ game out of the Wild Card spot. Kinston continues the playoff push tonight at Frederick.
