Potomac Adds Reliever Luis Garcia to Roster
September 1, 2009 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Potomac Nationals News Release
WOODBRIDGE, Va- The Potomac Nationals announced today that right-handed reliever Luis Garcia will be joining the roster today for the opener of their three-game series with the Lynchburg Hillcats after coming to the Nationals organization in the trade that sent infielder Ronnie Belliard to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Garcia, a native of the Dominican Republic, was originally signed out of the DR in January of 2004 by the Dodgers. The righty had been pitching for the Great Lakes Loons, the Low-A affiliate of the Dodgers for the entirety of the 2009 season, compiling some very impressive stats along the way.
In 34 games for the Loons, Garcia went 5-3 with five saves as well and a 2.92 earned run average. A ground-ball pitcher, Garcia had nearly a 2/1 groundball/flyball ratio to go along with 55 strikeouts in 71 innings. A strike-thrower, Garcia had walked just 15 batters all season.
Opponents are hitting just .245 against the righty this season, and he has allowed just five home runs in his 34 appearances.
Garcia will join the Potomac bullpen for the season's final week as the P-Nats welcome the Lynchburg Hillcats to Pfitzner Stadium for a three-game series.
Tuesday night's opener will begin at 7:05 ET, and it will be Manassas Community Night at the ballpark! All residents of Manassas will receive $1 off grandstand tickets to that night's ballgame. It will also be the last Salute to Service Tuesday at Pfitzner Stadium where all military, first responders, and teachers receive one free grandstand ticket with proof of valid ID.
