Gateway Grizzlies News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - Evansville second baseman Luis Parache drove in Dan Killian on an RBI single in the 10th inning and the Otters swept the Gateway Grizzlies with their third straight walk-off by the score of 2-1 Sunday night at Bosse Field.
It was the second time this season Gateway (48-36) has been swept all three games in a series, with the other coming June 20-22 at River City, which was the last time the Grizzlies had been swept.
For the second time in the series, Gateway and Evansville (39-44) battled in a pitcher's duel. This time it was Grizzlies right-hander Tim Brown and Evansville left-hander Matt Zielinski.
Brown pitched nine innings for the second straight outing, allowing only one run on eight hits. The right-hander from St. Louis, MO didn't walk a batter and struck out five. The only run that Brown allowed was a Nick Schwaner solo home run in the sixth inning that tied the game at one.
Zielinski fired six and two thirds, allowing four hits and one run. The only run he allowed was on a Jonathan Johnson RBI groundout in the fifth inning that gave the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead.
Gateway only collected four hits, while leaving ten runners on base. The Grizzlies left 33 runners on base in the three-game series.
Jordan Cudney (0-1) took the loss for the Grizzlies.
Gateway will enjoy an off day Monday before returning to action Tuesday at Windy City. Right-hander Chris Enourato (4-4) will start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
Playoff tickets are now on sale through the Grizzlies Ticket Office. To get tickets, call 618.337.3000 or go online to gatewaygrizzlies.com.
