Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, dropped the weekend series finale on Sunday to the Rockford RiverHawks 4-3 at the Corn Crib.

The CornBelters opened the game's offense in the third inning when Jesse Olivar led off with a double and scored on Pat McKenna's eighth home run of the season, a drive just over the right center field wall.

The RiverHawks countered with a pair of runs after two were out in the fourth inning thanks to RBI singles from Trevor Whyte and Greg Van Horn to tie the game at 2-2.

The Belters loaded the bases to start the fifth with consecutive singles from Olivar, Wiesemeyer and McKenna. Steven Felix's fly to center scored Olivar, but the Belters could not muster any more offense and took a 3-2 lead into the sixth innning.

The Hawks again answered in the sixth when Michael Hur led off with a single followed by a double by Matt Greener. Hur scored on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 3-3 and move Greener to third, and Greener scored on a sacrifice fly by Trevor Whyte to take a 4-3 lead.

Nick Anderson (1-2) earned the win as Garrett Granitz pitched a scoreless ninth for his tenth save. Jacob Liedka (2-11) took the loss.

The CornBelters take Monday off before resuming the homestand on Tuesday evening against the Frontier League-leading Traverse City Beach Bums. Pre-game on WJBC.com begins at 6:20 p.m. with first pitch at 6:30 at the Corn Crib.
