Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums scored five runs in the seventh inning to rally for a 6-2 win over the River City Rascals, capping a 7-2 homestand in front of 3,791 fans at Wuerfel Park.
Trailing 2-1 into the bottom of the seventh, the Beach Bums got things started right away as on the first pitch of the inning, Jeff Flagg lifted a ball into rightfield that was misplayed by Jason Patton for a two-base error. The first pitch to Kyle Colligan was stung into left to score Flagg and tie the game at 2-2. Sean Gusrang followed with a walk before Marcus Nidiffer laid down a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt to put runners on second and third with one out. Kyle Eveland came up next and after a couple of close calls, drove a 2-2 pitch on the outer half into right-centerfield for a triple, scoring Colligan and Gusrang for a 4-2 Traverse City lead. Two more runs came in on a fielder's choice groundout by Matt Howard and a sacrifice fly by Jose Vargas to make it 6-2.
Traverse City got the first run of the game in the fourth inning as Flagg, hitting into the teeth of a 15 mph wind, uncorked his 19th homer of the season to make it 1-0. The score stayed that way until the top of the seventh with Charlie Lisk doubled and Chris Andreas walked. After a groundout moved the runners to second and third, Matt Serna singled both runners home for a 2-1 River City edge.
The win went to Matt Miller (6-3) who pitched 2.1 innings in relief. Reid Kelly started and went 6.2 innings for the Beach Bums allowing two runs on four hits. Justin Sarratt (1-3) took a hard luck loss allowing three earned runs on two hits in 6+ innings.
Traverse City now heads out on the road for the final road trip of the regular season starting with a Tuesday evening contest at Normal. Jacob Clem (6-4, 2.85) gets the start for the Beach Bums against Ross Davis (1-0, 0.00) for the CornBelters. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST with the pregame show on Sunny Country 101.9 beginning at 7:10 p.m. For tickets to all Beach Bums home games, call 943-0100, visit tcbeachbums.com or stop by the Wuerfel Park ticket office.
