(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) - Evansville infielder Luis Parache hit a game-winning, 10th inning RBI single to center field, beating the Gateway Grizzlies 2-1 and helping the Otters earn their third straight walk-off victory.
Third baseman Steve Marino hit a game-winning sacrifice fly on Friday night, first baseman Nick Schwaner won Saturday's game with a walk-off single followed by a throwing error, and Parache completed the walk-off sweep on Sunday night.
Evansville starter Matt Zielinski and Gateway pitcher Tim Brown kept the teams scoreless through the first four innings.
The Grizzlies went ahead in the fifth inning with a leadoff single from outfielder John Shelby and an RBI groundout a few batters later by infielder Jonathan Johnson.
Evansville trailed 1-0 until the sixth inning when first baseman Nick Schwaner hit a game-tying home run to right field. It was the team-leading ninth home run this season for Schwaner.
After Zielinski went 6.2 innings, the Otters bullpen would keep the game tied. They did not give up any hits the remainer of the night as Todd Hughson worked around a jam in the sevneth then Patrick Dolan stranded men on base in the eighth and ninth innings. Reliever Dan Marcacci began extra innings with a scoreless 10th inning and Evansville began a rally in the bottom half.
Reliever Jordan Cudney entered the game but walked the leadoff hitter Dan Killian. After a sacrifice bunt and a hit by pitch, Cudney was removed from the game in favor of pitcher Zac Treece. The pitcher struck out Taylor Black for the second out, but Luis Parache won the game in the next at-bat.
Evansville earns their third sweep of the season, improving to 39-44. Gateway has now lost three straight games by walk-offs for the second time this season, dropping to 48-36.
Both starters did not factor in to the decision. Zielinski allowed just one run in 6.1 innings, recording seven strikeouts. Brown also surrendered one run in 9.0 innings.
Marcacci (2-1) is the winning pitcher after his hitless 10th inning. The loss goes to Cudney (1-1) who pitched just 0.1 innings.
The Evansville Otters are off on Sunday and will begin a three-game series at the Schaumburg Boomers on Tuesday night. Right-hander Bryce Morrow (6-6, 4.36 ERA) will start for the Otters against lefty Cameron Roth (8-7, 3.35). First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. CDT.
