
Miners Fall Short in Florence

Florence, KY - The Miners fell to the Florence Freedom in the final game of the series as Florence won 6-3. Miners starter Daniel Calhoun pitched 6.2 innings and gave up five runs off five hits and two walks. He struck out six batters in his performance.
The Miners got on the board first in the top of the third inning with a RBI double by Cory Harrilchak with two outs off Freedom starter Brandon Mathes to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. Florence tied the game at one off Calhoun in the bottom of the third inning with a two out single by designated hitter Peter Fatse.
The Miners regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning off Mathes with two out doubles by Jason Ganek and Chris Anderson to give the Miners a 3-1 lead. Florence tied the game at three off Calhoun with a two run home run by first baseman Eddie Rodriguez, his second of the series in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Florence would jump ahead of the Miners in the bottom seventh inning off Calhoun and reliever Gabriel Shaw as David Harris hit a two out RBI double along with two singles by Junior Arrojo and Peter Fatse to give the Freedom a 6-3 lead. Nick Cicio came in the game and retired Eddie Rodriguez with two outs to stop the threat by Florence.
Jorge Marban closed out the game for the Freedom to earn his 10th save of the season. The Miners would fall to 49-34 with the loss and now trail Traverse City by 5.5 games in the Eastern Division. The Miners are off on Monday and resume play in River City on Tuesday. First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
