RiverHawks beat Belters, 4-3, take first series win in a month

NORMAL, Ill. - Nick Anderson went seven innings for his first professional victory as the Rockford RiverHawks beat the Normal CornBelters, 4-3, on Sunday at the Corn Crib.

The RiverHawks took the rubber match of a three-game set for their first series victory in a month.

Anderson (1-2) gave up three runs on seven hits in the victory. The rookie struck out a career-high five and walked two.

Rockford manufactured two runs off Normal starter Jacob Liedka in the sixth inning to take the lead. Michael Hur led off with a single and Matt Greener doubled him to third base. Jet Butler drove in Hur with a groundout to shortstop and Trevor Whyte hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Greener with the go-ahead run.

Liedka (2-11) gave up four runs on six hits over six innings and took the loss.

Rockford closer Garrett Granitz pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 10th save.

Normal lost leads of 2-0 and 3-2. Pat McKenna hit a two-run homer, his second home run of the series and eighth of the year, in the third inning.

Rockford had not won a series since July 19-21, when it swept Frontier League East-leading Traverse City at RiverHawks Stadium to cap a 14-7 midseason run. They have won 10 of 28 games since then.

The RiverHawks open their final homestand of the season when they play Washington at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. Kids eat free with paid admission.
