Evansville Otters News Release

Evansville, IN - If only every game could be a doubleheader.

The Otters swept their third doubleheader of the year, 2-1 and 6-5 over the Rockford Riverhawks. Both games were scheduled for only seven innings.

John Ducey dominated game one, striking out a season high ten while allowing only one run on three hits and one walk in six innings. Justin Smith recorded the final out of the ninth with runners on second and third to earn his eighth save.

The Otters scored in the first inning on an Eric Blackwell RBI single, scoring Javier Brown from second. Evansville added their final run in the fourth when Cameron Satterwhite singled home Greg Alexander, who had walked and stole second base.

Rockford scored their only run of the game in the third inning when Alex Bardeguez was hit by a pitch, stole second, advanced to third on a poor throw by catcher Frank Meade, and came around on a Ducey wild pitch.

Ducey (2-6) picked up his first win since June 7th, when he defeated Traverse City in game one of a doubleheader. 'Hawks' starter Mike Rogers (1-5) allowed two earned runs on six hits in five innings.

As entertaining as the first game was, it was a mere opening act for the drama the back-end would provide.

The Otters opened the scoring in the second inning when Luke Hetherington led off with his third home run as an Otter. Greg Alexander walked and stole second again and scored on Adam Kampsen's single for a 2-0 lead after two innings.

Rockford struck back in the top of the third when Jono Brooks hit a solo home run to left-centerfield. It was his third home run of the year at Bosse Field in only his sixth game at the Otters' park.

The Otters extended the lead in fourth inning on an Andre Liscinsky RBI single and a balk by Tanner Watson with Adam Kampsen at third for a 4-1 lead.

Rockford got a run closer in the sixth with an RBI groundout to shortstop, setting the stage for a wild seventh inning.

Justin Smith came on looking for his second save in three hours, but the 'Hawks had other plans. With two outs and only one runner on base, four straight Riverhawks reached base, capped by Jason James' two run double that put Rockford up 5-4.

Evansville would answer in their half of the seventh, as a walk to Matt Schneider loaded the bases with two outs. Manager Wayne Krenchicki inserted pinch-hitter Frank Meade, who line a 2-2 pitch into centerfield, scoring Javier Brown and Luke Hetherington for a 6-5, walk-off win.

Smith (3-2) picked up the win, while Elliot Cribby (1-1) took the loss, allowing two earned runs in 2/3 innings. Otter's starter Kyle Dahman allowed only one hit over his five innings while striking out eight.

The Otters (20-43) welcome in the Wind City Thunderbolts for a three game series beginning Saturday at 7:05pm CDT.
