Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti News Release

YPSILANTI, MI - The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti tied their club record for wins in a season at 29. They defeated the Washington Wild Things 5-2 Saturday night behind a great pitching performance.

Mike Penn made an outstanding start for the Midwest Sliders only allowing two runs on seven hits. He struck out eight batters on way to earning his seventh victory of the season.

The Sliders had to earn their runs tonight against Wild Thing starter Brian McCullough. Jimmy Baker and Zack Pace both hit solo shots.

Midwest got some insurance runs in the eighth when Washington walked four straight batters, and Joash Brodin hit a base hit to give the Slider a 5-2 lead.

Arshwin Asjes came on in the ninth to collect his eighth save of the season, retiring the Wild Things in order.

Sunday's day game will begin at 2:05 p.m. Nolan Shaffer will make the start for Midwest as the look to break the franchise win record. The Sliders will continue the home stand through Thursday at EMU's Oestrike Stadium.
