'Hawks sign two, release Rogers and Sharp

LOVES PARK, Ill. - On Saturday, the Rockford RiverHawks signed outfielder Mike Tansey and pitcher Ferdin Tejada. Pitchers Mike Rogers and Cody Sharp were released.

Tejada, who has veteran status, signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Yankees in 2000. He spent four seasons in their farm system as a shortstop, reaching the Class AA level with Trenton in the Eastern League in 2004. In 2005, he transitioned to a pitcher. He signed with the Atlanta Braves organization in 2008. He pitched this season as a reliever with the Coastal Bend Thunder of the independent United League. He posted a 1-0 record with a 1.50 ERA in seven games and earned two saves.

Tansey is a true rookie from Stony Brook University. In 2009, his senior season, he batted .343 with 13 home runs and 40 RBI in 2009.

Rogers was the RiverHawks' opening-day starter. He started eight games and posted a 1-5 record with an 8.05 ERA. He also spent time on the disabled list this season.

Sharp appeared as a reliever in nine games. He had no record with a 9.95 ERA.
