Evansville, IN - Two kinds of thunderbolts rolled into Bosse Field on Saturday night: The ones from Windy City, and the ones from Mother Nature.

Saturday's game between the Windy City Thunderbolts and the Evansville Otters had to be suspended in the second inning due to heavy rain and lightning.

With the rain delay approaching 45 minutes and Bosse Field looking more like the lake in nearby Garvin Park, a bolt of lightning knocked out the power. Fans and staff were forced to make their exit in the dark in what amounted to a strange scene.

"This is certainly unique," said longtime scoreboard operator Brandon Taylor.

The Otters were cruising before the strom moved in. Thanks to four hits, three walks, and a hit batter, Evansville scored eight times in the first inning, taking an 8-1 lead. Frank Meade was hit with a fastball in the head, but after a few moments on the ground, was able to jog to first base and continue in the game.

The game will resume Sunday at 5:05 as part of a doubleheader. The score will be 8-1 with two outs in the bottom of the second inning with a runner on first base. The game will be followed a seven inning contest.
