Evansville Otters News Release
Evansville, IN - The Otters rediscovered the long ball against the Washington Wild Things Saturday night, hitting two home runs, but it was not enough as Washington triumphed 6-2.
Evansville got solo home runs by Eric Blackwell and Reece Gormon, but that was all they would get off of Wild Things' starter Jason Neitz. Neitz (5-3) allowed only three other hits in his seven innings of work, striking out eight and walking only one. He allowed only two earned runs in 8.1 innings last Sunday facing the Otters in Washington, Pennsylvania.
Like they had in the four previous meetings, the Wild Things jumped out to an early lead. Grant Psomas homered down the left field line for a 1-0 lead after the second inning. Washington added two more in the third on a Michael Parker RBI groundout and an Ernie Banks sacrifice fly. Jacob Dempsey hit his 14th home run of the year in the sixth inning for a 4-2 lead. The Wild Things scored two unearned runs in the seventh on a pair of errors by the Otters.
Dustin Renfrow (3-3) surrendered four earned runs in 6.2 innings, losing for the second time in a week to the Wild Things . Evansville had not homered in the previous four games, all against Washington. The Otters (16-34) will try to salvage the series Sunday at 6:05pm CDT.
