Washington Wild Things News Release
Evansville, IN - The Washington Wild Things and the Evansville Otters had their own Home Run Derby at Bosse Field Saturday night when the Washington bested Evansville 6-2. Four of the eight runs scored were solo home runs, uncharacteristic for Bosse Field.
The Wild Things' Grant Psomas got the evening started with a solo shot into left field in the second inning to give Washington the lead. A Chris Raniere ground out and an Ernie Banks sacrifice fly in the third inning racked up two more runs for Washington.
In the third inning Eric Blackwell smacked in a solo shot to put Evansville on the board. Then in the fifth, Reece Gorman led off with another Otters' solo shot, pulling Evansville to within one run.
Jacob Dempsey, however, handed the two-run advantage back to Washington in the top of the sixth when he smacked in another homer. Washington scored two additional runs in the seventh; Brett Grandstrand reached and scored on a Michael Parker ground out. Chris Sidick also reached on an error and was driven in by Raniere.
Jason Neitz struck out a season-high eight in seven innings of work. The left-hander allowed two earned runs on five hits and walked just one. Michael Lucas pitched one inning and relief and Rob Hedrick made his professional debut in the ninth inning, allowing no hits and striking out one.
The Wild Things and Otters meet for the third and final game of this series Sunday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT. Air time on WJPA 95.3 F.M. is 6:55. The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park Thursday. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
