Lake Erie wins second in series

SAUGET, IL- The Lake Erie Crushers pounded out 20 hits Saturday night en route to a 10-2 win over the Gateway Grizzlies in game two of a three-game series. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Crushers.

The Grizzlies (20-29) managed just five hits against Crushers' starter Paul Fagan. Fagan gave up two runs over six innings. He struck out five. Three Lake Erie relievers held the Grizzlies scoreless on just a single hit. Fagan is now 2-0 against the Grizzlies this season. His wins are the only two Lake Erie has this year against Gateway.

Lake Erie (26-23) got to Grizzlies starter Mark Brackman early, scoring a run in the first, and never trailed. Brackman allowed five runs on nine hits. over four-plus innings. He struck out seven.

Breck Draper and Brandon Johnson each hit solo home runs for the Grizzlies only runs. Draper's fourth of the year came in the fourth and made it 4-1 Lake Erie. The Crushers answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Johnson hit his seventh homer of the year in the fifth inning to make it 7-2.

The Grizzlies and Crushers will play the rubber match of the three-game series Sunday evening at GCS Ballpark. Game time is 6:05 pm.
