
Otters Shutout Southern Illinois in Doubleheader Sweep

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - The Evansville Otters swept a doubleheader from the Southern Illinois Miners on Wednesday with a 3-0 win in game one, and a 2-0 victory in game two.
The Evansville Otters pitching staff has given up just two runs in the last four games played, improving to 7-1 in doubleheaders this season.
Evansville remains in first place of the Frontier League East Division with an 11-5 record as Southern Illinois drops to 9-8 this season.
Left-hander Jason Ridenhour started game one for Evansville but got into trouble in the second inning.
Southern Illinois loaded the bases with one out but Ridenhour induced an inning-ending double play.
First baseman Andrew Clark then led off the next inning with a go-ahead solo home run. It was the second home run this season, and both have come in the last three games.
Ahead 1-0, outfielder Taylor Black added an RBI single that scored Frank Martinez in the fourth and center fielder John Shultz hit a fifth inning solo home run for the three run edge.
Reliever Scott Weismann (2-0) threw two scoreless innings and closer Eric Massingham pitched the seventh to complete the win.
The Otters also had the early lead in game two of the doubleheader. Outfielder C.J. Henry reached on a one out single in the first inning and he scored when first baseman Nick Schwaner hit a two-run home run to right-center field. It would be the only runs that Evansville scored in the second game.
Pitcher Bryce Morrow (2-1) threw a complete game shutout for the Otters, keeping Southern Illinois scoreless on the night, and recording seven strikeouts in victory.
The Otters will go for their first sweep of the season in the series finale on Thursday, June 6th . It is FC Tucker Emge Realty Night as well as Thirsty Thursday. Fans can enjoy 16 ounces of draft beer for only $2! Left-hander Matt Crim (1-1, 6.00 ERA) will be on the mound for Evansville as he will be opposed by righty Blake Nation (2-0, 5.17 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm CDT at historic Bosse Field and fans can get there free tickets at FC Tucker Emge.
