(Joliet, IL) - For the first 14 games of the season, the Joliet Slammers (7-9) did not score first in a game.

Well that's changing.

The Slammers scored three runs in the first inning for the second straight game and they never looked back in an 8-1 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts (4-13) Tuesday night at Silver Cross Field.

Marquis Riley started the game on the right foot with a hustling infield single. Nate Wilder drew a walk and Grant DeBruin tripled in both runners to put Joliet up 2-0. One out later Michael Wing reached on an error and DeBruin scored on the play. DeBruin would have scored without the error so Wing was credited with a RBI and the Slammers had a 3-0 lead.

The offense continued to roll in the second as Erick Gaylord doubled in his first professional at bat. Ben Hewett bunted Gaylord to third and Riley tripled him home. Wilder extended the Slammers' lead with a RBI double and Michael Wing finished off the scoring in the second with a two-RBI double of his own to make it 7-0 in favor of Joliet.

Windy City starter Matt Wickswat (1-2) could not make it through the second inning as he went an inning and two thirds, giving up seven runs on six hits.

Meanwhile Joliet starter Evan Anundsen (2-2) went six innings to pick up the victory, scattering five hits and giving up one run.

The ThunderBolts scored their lone run in the third when Adam Davis doubled to begin the inning. An infield single moved him to third and a Mike Torres single brought Davis home to make it 7-1 Slammers.

Joliet responded right away with a run in the bottom of the frame. Goose Kallunki started the inning with a single and two outs later Riley doubled him home to extend Joliet's lead to 8-1.

Riley ended up going 3-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. He was a home run shy of the Cycle. There were no other multi-hit games for Joliet but Wing had three RBI and DeBruin had two.

With the win, the Slammers have their first three-game winning streak of the season and snapped a five-game losing streak at home.

Joliet will look to clinch a series win Wednesday night as they send Chuck Lofgren (2-1, 4.41 ERA) to the mound against Daniel Cropper (0-1, 10.50 ERA).

First pitch at Silver Cross Field is at 7:05 p.m. and the Slammers are retiring Michael Jordan's #45 as it's "His Airness Night" at the yard. It's also another Spikes' Super Students presented by the University of St. Francis night and after the game all kids get to run the bases.
