Oliver and Sullivan Strong in Losses

Evansville, IN - The Miners begin their six game road trip losing their first two games to the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field. The Miners dropped game one 3-0 and fell 2-0 in game two.

In game one, Evansville took an early 1-0 lead on a solo home run by designated hitter Andrew Clark in the top of the second inning. Left fielder Taylor Black hit a single in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Otters a 2-0 lead. Evansville topped off the scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning when center fielder John Schultz hit a solo home run to take a 3-0 lead.

Miners starting pitcher Brian Oliver pitched six innings and allowed all three of Evansville's runs. He gave up seven hits, walked one batter and recorded four strikeouts in the loss. Oliver is now 2-2 on the regular season.

In game two, the Miners struggled at the plate as they only recorded four hits. Designated hitter Nick Schwaner hit a two run home run off Miners starting pitcher Richard Sullivan in the bottom of the first inning to give Evansville a 2-0 lead. Sullivan pitched six innings and allowed two runs off three hits, walked one batter and recorded three strikeouts.

The Miners and Otters wrap up the three game series tomorrow night at 6:35 pm. RHP Blake Nation will be on the mound against LHP Matt Crim of Evansville. Mike Ventola will have the call on the Miners Radio Network beginning at 6:15 with the Heartland Regional Medical Center pregame show.
