June 5, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
Joliet, IL- One night after the Evansville Otters (13-6) gave up 13 runs, they went on the road to Joliet, IL and put up nine of their own in a comfortable 9-2 victory over the Jolet Slammers (8-11).
Trevor Walch continued his solid start to the season for the Otters, going seven innings while allowing just one unearned run on five hits despite walking five and striking out just three.
The Otters poured four on the board in the third inning, two of which came on a blunder by the Slammers first basement Hunter Ridge with runners on first and second. Nike Balog singled home a run two batters later and Chris Sweeney made it four nothing with a sac fly in the next at bat.
The Otters offense was not done though, plating three more in the fifth inning. A double by Shayne Houck gave a chance for Balog to push across another, which he did with another single to center and Sweeney followed with his second triple of the night to make it 6-0 before Josh Allen muscled a single to left for the 7-0 lead.
The Slammers scored an unearned run off of Walch in the bottom of the fifth inning, but sacrifice flies by Sweeney in the sixth and Cory Urquhart in the seventh gave the Otters their final runs of the night. Evan Mott allowed a run in relief in the eihgth, but it was much too little much too late for the slammers.
With the seven innings of work, Walch sees his record improve to 2-1 and his ERA drop ro 1.33 while Jordan Guth falls to 2-3.
Shayne Houck reached base in all five of his at bats including scoring three times in addition to a double. Nik Balog picked up three more hits and two more RBI while Chris Sweeney stroked his first two doubles of the year and drove in three.
The Otters and Slammers are back at it again tomorrow night in Joliet for a 6:05 P.M. CDT start. The pregame show with Jake Donnelly is slated to start at 5:45 P.M. CDT.
