Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - The ThunderBolts lost a lead for the third straight day as they lost their fourth consecutive game, 5-3 to the first-place Rockford Aviators at Standard Bank Stadium Friday night.
Rockford (15-4) got the scoring started in the second inning. An error started the rally as the Aviators proceeded to load the bases on back-to-back singles. Zak Wasserman walked Conor Szczerba to score the first run and Michael Hur's sacrifice fly made it 2-0.
The ThunderBolts (5-13) answered with three in the third on four hits. Ransom LaLonde, Tyler Clark and Mike Torres each singled to load the bases before Jonathan Garcia's sacrifice fly put the Bolts on the board. Austin Gallagher, in his first game with the team, followed with a single to score Clark and Torres and give the ThunderBolts a 3-2 lead.
Rockford tied the score without hitting the ball out of the infield in the fifth. Hur singled, advanced on a wild pitch and a groundout and scored on another groundout.
They took the lead in the seventh when Szczerba reached on an error and later scored on a Hur sacrifice fly. Jaron Shepherd and Dusty Robinson each singled later in the inning to make it 5-3.
The ThunderBolts had a chance in the eighth, putting Coco Johnson at third and Torres at second thanks to a walk, single and double steal. But Garcia struck out and Gallagher grounded out to end the last threat of the game.
Kyle Hassna (3-0) allowed three runs in seven innings for the win. Joel Lima (1-1) took the loss, giving up two unearned runs in the seventh. Colby Holmes pitched a perfect ninth for his first save.
The ThunderBolts and Aviators resume their series on Saturday night with Danny Jimenez (1-1, 2.81) getting the start for the Bolts against Rockford's Kyle Allen (2-0, 2.60). All fans 18 and older at the game will have a chance to win two tickets to game three of the Stanley Cup Finals. Following the game, Georgio's Comfort Inn will sponsor a fireworks show. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 and fans not in attendance can hear the broadcast at wcthunderbolts.com.
