Rascals Complete Sweep, Win Sixth Straight

River City Rascals News Release


Avon, OH - The Rascals (11-7) won 3-1 and completed their sweep of the Lake Erie Crushers (5-11) on Thursday, June 4 at All Pro Freight Stadium. The Rascals have now won their last six games. RHP Tim Koons (W, 2-0) earned the victory after tossing 7.0 innings. He allowed just one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out six batters. RHP Zeb Sneed punched out two batters over 1.0 scoreless inning of relief. RHP Nick Kennedy surrendered one hit in 0.1 inning, and RHP Will Schierholz (S, 1) recorded the final two outs of the game.

The Rascals took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when RF Jackson Slaid hit a solo homerun, his first career long ball.

Lake Erie tied the game in the bottom of the fourth frame. Anderson Hidalgo led off with a single, advanced to second on a hit, and went to third base on a fielder's choice. Frank Desico then tied the game with a single to left field.

The Rascals regained the lead with a pair of homers in the eighth inning. 3B Taylor Ard hit his fourth homer of the season to begin the inning. 1B Danny Canela then hit a solo shot, his third, giving the Rascals a 3-1 lead. Ard has hit a homer in three straight games. All three Rascals runs came on solo shots.

Crushers starter Brad Zambron allowed one run over 4.2 innings and did not receive a decision. Mike Devine (L, 1-2) surrendered one run and two hits over 1.1 inning.

The Rascals open a three-game series with the Gateway Grizzlies on Friday, June 5 at GCS Ballpark at 7:05 p.m. CST.
