WASHINGTON, PA-The Wild Things dropped the opening game of their series against the Traverse City Beach Bums Friday Night at Consol Energy Park by a final score of 7-0. Matt Sergey suffered the loss for Washington while Ian MacDougal earned the win for the Beach Bums.

Traverse City got off to the early lead with a four-run first inning, highlighted by right fielder Reggie Lawson's three-run home run. The Beach Bums added on two more runs in the second off of two throwing errors by the Wild Things.

Sergey settled down after the second, retiring 10 straight Beach Bums. He finished his 6.1 inning performance allowing 10 hits, five earned runs and four strikeouts.

The Wild Things threatened in the bottom of the sixth to gain some ground on TC after back-to-back singles by catcher John Fidanza and David Popkins followed by a walk by third baseman Carter Bell loaded the bases for the home team. MacDougal was able to ground the Washington batters, however, keeping the score at 6-0.

Popkins led the Wild Things at the plate, collecting three hits in the Friday night loss. Popkins has now hit safely in eight of his last 10 games, including four home runs and 12 RBI.

Tyler Ferguson made his Wild Things debut tossing a scoreless ninth inning striking out one. The Lefty was recently signed after his senior season at La Roche College, where he earned both NCAA Division III Mideast All-Region Second Team and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year recognitions in 2014.
