Otters can't hold lead

The Mid-Missouri Mavericks scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Evansville Otters 4-3, salvaging the final game of the three game series.

The Otters struck first in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Denver Stuckey. Mid-Missouri came back with an RBI single

Evansville retook the lead in the top of the sixth. With one out, Steve Martin doubled and stole third. Cole Hilt drove home Martin with a single to right to make it 2-1. However, the Mavericks scored one in the bottom of the inning to tie it at 2-2. It could have been worse for the Otters, however, as Mid-Missouri loaded the bases with one out, but failed to score any further runs.

Evansville once again came out in front on an infield single by Steve Martin in the eight to score Denver Stuckey, who had tripled.

The set up the dramatics for Mid-Missouri in the ninth. Brett Winn led off with a single to start the inning. Ryan Kottke was hit by a pitch, sending Winn to second. After a sacrifice by Dusty Young moved the runners to second and third, Josh Wettlaufer popped a pitch back of the drawn in infield. No one was able to get there, scoring the tying run. With a pinch runner on third, Dusty Hillman drove a ball to left field to score the winning run.

Ryan Burnau lost the game for Evansville. Cooper Eddy picked up the win in relief.

The Otters now will face River City in a three game series leading up to the All-Star break. Andre Simpson will go to the mound in game one for Evansville. Saturday's game is at 7:05 p.m.
