Rockford RiverHawks News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. - Doug Dreher broke out of his slump on Friday and carried the Chillicothe Paints to an 8-5 win over the Rockford RiverHawks.
Dreher was 4-for-4 with a sacrifice bunt as the Paints salvaged the finale of a three-game series, in front of 2,440 at Marinelli Field.
Chillicothe broke a 3-3 tie with a three-run rally in the sixth inning and led the rest of the way. Dreher singled in the go-ahead run and scored on Beau Blacken's home run to left field off reliever Bobby Mack (1-3).
The RiverHawks rallied for two runs in the seventh inning on hits by Ryan Larson and Aaron McEachran and knocked out Chillicothe starter Justin Munoz. They pulled within two runs of the lead and had the bases loaded with two outs, but reliever Nick Cavanagh struck out Matt Sauls to preserve the lead.
Pete Soskin pitched two scoreless innings of relief for his first professional save. Munoz (2-1) gave up five runs on 12 hits, but got the win.
The RiverHawks host the Florence Freedom the next three nights, starting at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. Alvarez Mexican Restaurants and WZOK sponsor RiverHawks Batting Helmet Night.
The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
