Roosters struggle to score runs

Richmond Roosters News Release

Crestwood, Illinois - The Roosters suffered a season worst fourth consecutive loss, 3-2, on Thursday night at Windy City. Richmond's bats were silenced for the second straight game following a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday. Matt Schweitzer made another quality start for the Roosters, but couldn't get the run support as the team fell one run short.

The scoring began quickly for the Thunderbolts. Clemente Bonilla returned to the Windy City lineup, after almost a one month absence, with a leadoff infield single. He would later score in the inning on a single by Justin Schuda. Two more runs scored for Windy City in the second on a RBI triple by Nick Klusaw and a run scoring single by Jerome McCoy. That would be all the scoring that Windy City would get, but it would be all that was needed as well.

The Roosters finally got on the board in the fifth when Hector Urena scored from second on a single to center from Mike Bidwell. Kevin White led off the ninth inning with a homer to right field cutting the lead to one, but that would be the final run for the visitors as Richmond lost 3-2. Preston Simms (1-0) got his first professional win for Windy City while Matt Schweitzer (1-4) took the loss. Chris Hayes (2) got the save.

The Roosters (17-24) will try and avoid the sweep against Windy City (14-27) on Friday at 7:05 p.m (Indiana time). Tony Casoli (6-1, 2.73 ERA) will attempt to get his seventh straight win for Richmond against Ryan Dittfurth (1-4, 4.59 ERA). The Roosters will return home on Saturday for the first game of a series against the Gateway Grizzlies.
