Windy City ThunderBolts News Release

Crestwood, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts were denied a sweep of the Richmond Roosters on Friday night as they were defeated 6-5 in ten innings at Hawkinson Ford Field.

The Roosters took to the scoreboard first by posting two runs in the second. Neither run was earned as the ThunderBolts defense committed two errors in the frame.

The ThunderBolts cut their deficit in half at 2-1 in the bottom of the third. Center fielder Jerome McCoy lined a one out single and came around to score on a double by second baseman Clemente Bonilla. Windy City took a one run lead in the bottom of the fourth. The two runs in the frame were scored on a shot to left by designated hitter Nick Klusaw. The homerun was the first of Klusaw's professional career.

Richmond tied the score in the top of the sixth, only to fall behind 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth. All-Star right fielder Nick Johnson led off with a single and advanced to second on an error by the second baseman when fielding a grounder by Klusaw. A double by third baseman Jason Crosland plated Johnson and pushed Klusaw to third. A ground out by left fielder Justin Niefer scored Klusaw.

It was a see-saw battle as the Roosters earned two back in the top of the seventh to tie the game at five. With one on and one out, Nate Gravely laced a double to left field, scoring Gerald Miller. Two wild pitches by reliever Lenny Bays allowed Gravely to tie the score.

In extra innings, the Roosters jumped ahead when former ThunderBolt Rich Daly came home on a single by Josh Hollingsworth. Beau Massey came in to set the ThunderBolt offense down in order in the bottom of the tenth to end the game.

Ryan Dittfurth went six strong innings, letting up three runs on four hits, but did not earn a decision. Taking the loss for the ThunderBolts was reliever Matt Hines. Hines loaded the bases in the top of the ninth but got through it unscathed. He was unable to escape trouble in the tenth, as he let up the winning run. Adam Varteressian earned the one pitch win, as he recorded the final out of the ninth inning against the ThunderBolts.

The Windy City ThunderBolts will take on the Washington Wild Things for a three game series beginning Saturday night at 7:05pm. Tickets are still available.
